About Libertas Gardens

Founded in 2008 by Lucas Libertas, Libertas Gardens brings a refined, design-led approach to landscape creation and long-term garden stewardship. Originally from Montreal, Canada, Lucas trained as a landscaper before settling in Melbourne, where he has cultivated a practice that bridges architectural sensibility with a deep respect for the living landscape.

Over the years, Libertas Gardens has evolved into a practice that prioritises enduring relationships—both with clients and with the gardens we nurture. Our early work was rooted in productive and edible garden design, but as our portfolio expanded and our collaborations deepened, our focus naturally progressed toward construction, fine landscaping, and the long-term curation of established gardens.

Today, we are sought after for our ability to integrate landscape seamlessly with architecture, ensuring that every project is not only visually compelling but also functionally intelligent and environmentally attuned. While we continue to take on select design commissions, our core expertise lies in the ongoing custodianship of sophisticated, high-performing gardens, where refined aesthetics meet ecological resilience.

We operate primarily in Melbourne’s inner suburbs, though exceptional projects see us working further. With two dedicated maintenance teams, we currently have limited availability for new design and maintenance contracts.
