At Libertas Gardens, we like to think that most concrete driveways are just absurdly thickly mulched garden beds… waiting for a rescue!
.
This somewhat uninteresting slab of concrete has been preventing water to permeate the soil under it for decades. Except a pretty stubborn patch of grass pushing through a crack, nothing has been able to grow or live here. Until we came to the rescue!
.
This driveway can fit 8 cars… after our little intervention there will still be room for four cars, but room will be made for a few native plants, a bit of human food, native birds, and hundreds and thousands of insects and other wiggly invertebrates!
.
Dan with the concrete cutter. Yes, yes, it is a LOT less fun than it looks to cut concrete!
.
A bit of hard work is needed to undo the reinforced steel fabric of our civilisation…
.
The strict minimum of concrete has been kept. A bit more work on drainage and soil improvement is coming, but this garden will look superb in no time.
.
It is all taking shape!
Come back for further developments!
